Berliner Brot, a traditional German bar cookie with hazelnuts and chocolate, are only consumed around Christmas and Advent.

Set oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees C).

A parchment paper or greased 9 1/2 x 13-inch baking sheet should be used.

Using an electric mixer, combine butter and sugar in a big bowl.

One at a time, add eggs and blend just until combined.

In a different bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, cinnamon, baking powder, and cloves.

Mix just until combined before adding the flour mixture to the wet mixture.

Mix again just until combined after adding hazelnuts.

The mixture ought to resemble a smooth dough in texture.

Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet and round out the edges with a rolling pin.
