Grandma Simpson’s Apple Dumplings
Apple dumplings from Grandma’s are a beloved family recipe that make a wonderful fall dessert but are also enjoyable year-round.
For the crust, whisk together the flour, salt, and cinnamon.
Add shortening and blend until very crumbly.
Just enough water should be added to the mixture to hold the dry ingredients together.
Combine the ingredients and form a ball.
Wrap in wax paper, then chill for 20 minutes in the fridge.
Half the dough at a time, roll out to a thickness of 1/8 inch on a lightly dusted surface.
Six 7-inch squares, cut into them.
If desired, save any extra dough for a decorative garnish.
Put a single apple in the middle of each dough square.
