A vanilla cake base is flecked with tiny chocolate chips, and the frosting is vanilla with dark chocolate on top.

Set oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees C).

The 9×9-inch cake pan should be greased.

In a glass or metal bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.

Sharp peaks will form in the egg whites when you lift your beater or whisk straight up.

With an electric mixer, combine unsalted butter, white sugar, and a large bowl; beat until light and fluffy.

Add flour, baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt.

Mixture of flour and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract should be beaten; add beaten egg whites and chocolate chips afterward.

To the prepared pan, spread the batter.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

For about 30 minutes, let the pan cool completely on a wire rack.
