This is a recipe for classic sugar cookies. Get creative and make or cut fun shapes, and use colored sugar, if desired.
Oven should be preheated to 400°F (200°C).
Sift together all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar over a large bowl.
When the mixture resembles cornmeal, cut in the butter and then blend it with a pastry blender.
Add vanilla and egg cream that have been lightly beaten.
Mix well.
If desired, the dough may be chilled.
Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/8 inch on a floured surface.
Add sugar and then cut into the desired shapes.
Transfer to baking sheets without grease.
Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, until just beginning to turn golden.
